Small business grows with growth of unemployment, a fact from Cambodia

While there are more and more students graduate from universities, the number of unemployed also increases. Graduated students prefer jobs at established organizations or companies. Most of them is not able to have their own small business, while the such small business which then create jobs is increasingly growing in the country. Should the government be focus on creation of small business by the graduate students? …….Think..

Small businesses is the key to any strong economy. Every politician in America always preach helping small businesses grow, because unlike large corporations, small businesses do not move out of the neighborhood. The Cambodian government should definitely support small local businesses.

  2. Khmai, you are right. At this moment the government shall strongly focus on that issue. While I am seeing that the government talk much on that, there is a little bit action appeared to the public regarding the government actions to promote and strengthen the small and medium enterprises. However, more or less, this sector is growing from time to time. To my understanding, at least the growth of this section has contributed to economic growth of 13.4% of GDP for the year 2005, as stated by the Prime Minister.

People both in or outside Cambodia should share ideas or support the initiative actions of Cambodian people in the establishment of small and medium enterprises while waiting for the government incentives for the SMEs. But how to do with this proposed activities? I hope all interested in the sector may contribute to this discussion of that topic. Thanks, Sokthy Im

Encourage small businesses by giving them tax breaks and a safety net. LLC or limited liability corporations are meant to protect small businesses. If a small business is sucessfully sued, they are only liable for a small fee.

Cambodia is ripe for small businesses, especially in the “internet” sector. There are many capable IT graduate students. In addition to knowing all about IT, students should also take some business course to learn how to maximize their skills.

The Cambodian government should encourage technology as much as it can. Internet access are still limited to “Internet cafe” and people “with money”. In addition, those who can afford a computer and Internet access do not have the know-how or needs to acquire one from home.

My sister n’ law in Cambodia could afford an Internet access, but because nobody in the family knows how to use it, they think it would be a “waste” of money. A computer and an Internet access is the BEST INVESTMENT anyone could have. If you know how to work it, you do not have to stray from home to make a good decent living.
